Each month of the year, a new social ministry focus is chosen for members to show their support of others in need. The program is called “Mission of the Month”.
The program attempts to support missions in three broad areas of concern: Locally, Nationally and Internationally.
A brief description of each mission follows:
January – Teen Challenge (Local) A 12-month, faith based, residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. The program has a strong faith-based approach and offers spiritual, academic and vocational training that helps equip individuals to return to society as responsible citizens. https://www.teenchallenge.ca/
February – Lutheran Hour Ministries (International) February- Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) Through its North American headquarters and 34 ministry centers on 6 continents, LHM reaches into more than 50 countries, often bringing Christ to places where no other Christian evangelistic organizations are present. LHM’s flagship ministry, The Lutheran Hour airs weekly on more than 1,00 radio stations and the American Forces Network. https://www.lhm.org/
March – Harvest Hands (Local) A non-profit food distribution centre dedicated to “rescuing” food from bakers, growers and retailers, to help agencies and families in SW Ontario. Its motivation is to demonstrate God’s love through acts of kindness, meeting the needs of the most vulnerable in our region. https://harvesthands.ca
April – Ark Aid (Local) A bold initiative in London, Ontario to provide safe resting places, warm meals and essential support to those facing homelessness. Its mission is to transform lives through dignity, hope and the offer of a path to stability. https://arkaidmission.ca
May – Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots (LAMP) (National) LAMP is a cross-cultural ministry sharing Jesus Christ with God’s people in remote areas of Canada. https://www.lampministry.org/
June – Lutheran Bible Translators (LBTC) (International) LBTC transforms lives through Bible translation with God’s guiding hand, prayers and generous gifts from faithful supporters. It equips leaders around the world with tools to translate the Bible into the language best understood for a particular area. https://lbtc.ca/
July – Canadian Lutheran World Relief (International) Their Mission: “Inspired by God’s love for the world, CLWR challenges and responds to the injustice and consequences of human suffering and poverty. https://www.clwr.org/
August – Indwell (Local) A Christian charity based in SW Ontario that has been supporting vulnerable adults dealing with mental health challenges with dignity, love and hope. https://indwell.ca
September – Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary (St,Catherines) (National) They are a seminary of Lutheran Church-Canada, a member of the International Lutheran Council,, offering Master of Divinity and Master of Theological Studies degrees. https://concordia-seminary.ca/
October – Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Canada (LWML-C) (National) A Lutheran women’s group dedicated to growing in God’s Word, sharing God’s Son and serving God’s people. https://lutheranwomen.ca/
November – London Food Bank (Local) A non-profit organization whose mission is to help a generous community share its food resources with those who need food security and the ability to obtain the food that they require. https://www.londonfoodbank.ca
December – Mission Services of London (Local) Is a Christian faith-based social service agency with a focus on serving those who struggle with poverty and homelessness; men, women and children. They provide food, shelter, clothing, crisis intervention and rehabilitation. https://missionservices.ca/
